Boxing returns to New York state’s capital region this Saturday night, March 10 as Ares Promotions presents “Fight Night 8” at the Empire Plaza Convention Center, under “The Egg.” The venue has become the home of Albany boxing in recent years and was the location of Mike Tyson’s professional debut in Mach of 1985. Headlining the 8 bout card will be Jose “Stinger” Medina taking on journeyman Michael Rayner in a middleweight eight rounder. In a case of “If you can’t beat ‘em, Join ‘em,” Ares Promotions signed the “Stinger” after having been stung by Medina when he was brought in against Ares’ own Markus Williams, then 7-1, and Chris Fitzpatrick, then 14-0, and he beat them both.

Undefeated in his last five bouts, including a draw against former WBA Jr. Middleweight champ Joachim Alcine, Medina is looking to stay sharp against Rayner. Despite a 16-9-1 record, Ares head Adam Neary feels Medina can make a move in the division, especially if Medina can hit the 20-win mark. “Jose has new management behind him now. With a few more wins, hopefully we can get him going after a minor title belt,” said Neary.

In an intriguing matchup at middleweight, Ares stablemates Markus Williams (8-2) and Stephen Scott (8-3) will lock horns for capital regional bragging rights. Popular local light heavyweight Shawn Miller will take on James Denson over 6 rounds, while comebacking lightweight Brian Miller tangles with Chris Finley, also 6 rounds. Also on the card are undefeated super lightweights Gabriel Duluc, (3-0) and Treysean Wiggins, (2-0), as well as super featherweight Chazz McDowell, (5-0).
