COHOES — Shawn Miller continues to aspire to bring a title back to Troy.

The professional boxer thinks he has taken another step along that path, with Ares Promotions as his teammate.

Miller signed a multi-year deal with Ares, on Tuesday, that he hopes will help along his journey to a winning a professional boxing title.

“It’s a great opportunity for me, in my goal of working towards a championship,” Miller said.

Miller is 6-1-1 in his young career, but has made great strides the past few fights, which has Ares committed in him.

“We want to be with him as he goes from a prospect to a contender to a champion over the next few years,” said Ares’ president Adam Neary.

The agreement guarantees Miller 15 fights over the next three years, a big commitment, especially for someone who is still and up-and-comer.

“It speaks volumes for what they think of me,” Miller said. “They’re investing in me and in return, I will do the same for them.”

The agreement will make Miller the face of Ares Promotions and a guy who will be featured at their events for years to come.

“For me, being a guy they want as a poster guy, it’s a very special feeling,” Miller said.

Miller has recently been training with Jerrick Jones, of Quail Street Boxing, which he says has helped him incredibly in improving his technique and proper form.

In past fights, Miller, who is elatively new to the sport, has just tried to beat down his opponent, with his strength and athleticism. Now, he plans on beating people with better skill, winning the chess match, so to speak.

“Working with (Jones) has turned me into a boxer/fighter,” Miller said.

Miller’s next fight will be March 10, at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center, where he’s fought his two most recent fights.

His local following is certainly something that makes him attractive, but Ares’ sees more than that, as well.

“We want to work with people that we get along with and trust,” Neary said. “Shawn is that.”

Ares is investing in Miller as a fighter and a person, something they believe is a solid venture.

“The more he wins and the better he looks, the more people will potentially come out to watch him fight,” Neary said.
